Building community
Kawartha Commons Cohousing continues to build and strengthen community. We've been making good use of Zoom to hold our business meetings and Discovery Circles.
We’ve also kept everyone up to date on KCC's sociocracy implementation and our discussions with our local developer.
One thing we've really been enjoying these past few weeks is our "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" virtual meetings where we get together over Zoom to break bread . And Rick continues to host our twice-weekly KCC Chat Lines. They've been a fabulous way for everyone to stay connected.
Last month we had a couple of very helpful virtual presentations. On April 8 we joined our cohousing consultant, Katie McCamant, for a webinar in which she shared her insights about how other communities are coping with these challenging times.
We especially enjoyed our April 19 virtual panel meeting with residents from six cohousing communities in Canada and the US. They left us with all sorts of useful insights and creative ideas for managing the pandemic.
Our virtual panel really confirmed the value of working together toward a common goal. Community is where you find it, be it next door or across the continent.
But for now, keep in mind the words of B.C.'s Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry: "This is our time to be kind, to be calm, and to be safe."
Advice, Observations, and Memes
There's a great resource for anyone wanting a closer look at cohousing at the Cohousing US YouTube channel. Katie McCamant has contributed some useful WebChats here, and they're worth checking out.
